ABSTRACT

Background: when face-to-face activities restarted, the universities welcomed students who experienced losses related to Covid-19, caused or not by death, a situation that deserves to be addressed. Objective: to base, from the conceptual and methodological, a program aimed at teachers for grief counseling and facing with losses. Methods: a theoretical-reflexive analysis was carried out based on the systematization of publications in Spanish and English in the last three years. The terms: grief, university, coronavirus infections and counseling were introduced as descriptors. A screening of the eligible articles of the 76 found was carried out. A program for grief counseling and coping with post-Covid-19 losses was founded and prepared. Results: the program consists of three phases with general and specific indications, which can be modified by individualizing them. Evaluation instruments and intervention techniques are proposed. Conclusions: the program constitutes an adequate guidance instrument for teachers to help their students deal with grief.

ABSTRACT

Background: The prevention of the contagion of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is the main weapon against the disease, and in Cuba it is carried out, fundamentally, with social isolation in specific centers where a modeling of the behavior of classified people is intended as contacts. Objective: To describe the modulation of behavior in contact patients treated in the Villa Azucarera isolation center before, during and at the end of their epidemiological surveillance. Methods: Observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study in the Villa Azucarera de Camaguey isolation center for patient contacts of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus patients during February and March 2021. Theoretical methods were used:analysis-synthesis and inductive-deductive and empirical: observation, epidemiological survey and interviews. Results: Behavior modulation was demonstrated at the conclusion of the epidemiological surveillance and the increase in the need to use the nasobuco, frequent hand washing and social distancing. Male patients aged between 31 and 40 years predominated. Conclusions: The attitude of the patient during the surveillance in the institution changes from an explicit rejection at the beginning, to an acceptance at the time of discharge, and an increase in the perception of the risk of becoming ill due to the increase in the level of information and of the therapeutic relationship established with health personnel.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The virtual health university has played a relevant role in these pandemic times. Due to the epidemiological situation caused by COVID-19, several sectors and ministries were forced to adopt strategies to fulfill their mission in the new scenario. Higher medical education is provided by means of distance education for its students with the use of information technologies, which demands from them additional commitment and motivation. Objective: To identify the level of academic commitment of undergraduate nursing students under distance education conditions. Methods: Descriptive and cross-sectional study of concurrent execution, with a mixed methodological design, carried out in the period from January to March 2021. From the population of 75 second-year students of the regular daytime Nursing course in Camagüey, a convenience sample of 48 was selected. The following empirical methods were applied: observation, academic engagement scale and the positive-negative-interesting technique. The following dimensions were assumed: enthusiasm, dedication and absorption. For the analysis of quantitative data, distribution of absolute frequencies and percentages was used. Results: Of the total sample, 54.17 % had a high level of commitment. The dimension enthusiasms reached 52.08 %, dedication 50.00 % and absorption 43.75 %. The use of available time to fulfill other activities such as active research was assessed. Conclusions: The sample showed a high level of academic commitment. This is favorable, in distance education conditions, for the quality of overall formation and the fulfillment of varied activities. © 2022, Editorial Ciencias Medicas. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Despite the epidemiological contingency caused by COVID-19, the academic training of nursing professionals did not cease, and Cuba restarted the process of specialization of its graduates in four specialties. The requests for definitive quits received in the first weeks motivated the authors to write this article, in which this training is assumed as requiring high motivation towards study. Objective: To characterize the academic motivation of residents in nursing specialties in Camagüey. Methods: Cross-sectional and descriptive study carried out from December 2020 to February 2021 in the hospital centers of Camagüey where the specialization is received. The work was completed with the population of 47 residents enrolled in the specialties. As empirical methods, the adapted educational motivation scale, the semistructured interview and observation were applied. The following dimensions were assumed: intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation and amotivation. For the analysis of quantitative data, distribution of absolute frequencies and percentage calculation were used. The data were qualified by means of content analysis, which yielded two categories. Results: Intrinsic academic motivation predominated, accounting for 63.00 % of the residents;followed by extrinsic motivation, present in 23.00 %. Only 5.00 % were unmotivated. Conclusions: There are different typologies of intrinsic academic motivation related to the studied specialty. Achievement-directed motivation predominated. Within extrinsic regulation, most of the sample subjects had identified regulation, followed by introjected and external regulation. © 2022, Editorial Ciencias Medicas. All rights reserved.
